Dear Friends of the Cantata Singers of Ottawa,
I am delighted to invite you to our 58th season, a musical antidote to the pandemic.
We will start with a candlelit performance of the Rachmaninoff Vespers, one of the most beautiful choral works ever written.
Featuring moments of great joy and solemnity, the work takes us through the text of the all-night vigil, a musical and spiritual journey to soothe the soul.
Before Christmas, we offer the Best of Bach Cantatas by Candlelight including some of Bach’s most famous and popular pieces, Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring (from Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben BWV 147), and Sleepers Wake (from Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme BWV 140). We will be joined by four magnificent soloists and an orchestra of early instruments for this not to be missed event.
Our final concert of the season will be a celebration of French Songs of the 20th century, featuring music by Lili Boulanger, Poulenc, Ravel, Fauré, Debussy and a new commission by Canadian composer Marie-Claire Saindon.
Due to the pandemic, concert venues and times are subject to change so please subscribe to our mailing list to be kept up to date with the latest information. We will endeavour to communicate the details of our performances as far in advance as is practicable.
I hope that you will be able to enjoy some wonderful safe concerts with the Cantata Singers this season. We missed you!
