September 2017

Dear Friends of the Cantata Singers of Ottawa,

I am delighted to invite you to our 54th season, full of musical delights.

We open the season with a candlelit concert of Mozart, Bach and Fauré. The centerpiece of the programme will be Gabriel Fauré's masterpiece, Requiem (1893 version) with an orchestra of strings, horns, harp and organ. Other works will include Mozart's Misericordia Domini and the orchestra playing Bach's Brandenburg concerto No.6.

In December we are delighted to present another Family Christmas Spectacular with the Ottawa Children's choir and Cathedral Brass. Join us for some sing-along with many of the best loved Christmas melodies, plus all my favorite brass fanfares. If you attended last year, you will already know the interactive Twelve Days of Christmas is not to be missed.

Our March concert features mostly a cappella music connected with winter and spring. Works will be drawn from around the world including music by Fissinger, Howells, Rutter and Canadian composer, Don Macdonald.

Our season concludes with Ave Verum. The concert title is the opening of a hymn text that has inspired numerous musicians across the centuries. Come and experience a wide range of settings from composers including Lassus, Byrd, Mozart, Elgar, Liszt, Saint-Saëns and Poulenc.

I encourage you to buy your subscription, come to the concerts, and support us however you can!

Best wishes,

Andrew McAnerney
